Abstract
This study examines underrepresentation in hospitality
management, noting the contrast between lower-tier workers, predominantly
minorities, and upper management, which lacks diversity. The paper suggests
inclusion of minorities in hiring processes could improve workforce diversity.
Challenges including attracting and retaining minority employees and promoting
them to management roles are discussed. Barriers like escalating education
costs and academic readiness that impact potential future managers are also
explored. The study contends that given the multicultural customer base, the industry
must recognize the value of a diverse workforce to improve service quality.
